Below is a list of our core training sites.  In addition to the sites listed, residents are able schedule elective rotations at other sites in the Valley and beyond.

Alta Dermatology

Alta Dermatology is a community-based dermatology clinic located in Mesa, AZ.  It offers the Resident the opportunity to participate in the care of medical, surgical, pediatric, and cosmetic dermatologic patients under the direction of two board-certified dermatologists, one of whom is the Program Director. Alta Dermatology has more than 30,000 outpatient visits per year, of which more than 4,000 are new patient visits. More than 600 excisional surgeries are performed at the site each year, along with more than 600 Mohs micrographic surgical procedures.

Phoenix VA

Phoenix VA rotations provide the educational experience of working in a large governmental health care institution with multiple board certified staff dermatologists/educators. There are greater than 12,000 outpatient visits at this site per year, including more than 4,000 new patient visits.  More than 450 excisional surgeries are performed at this site every year.  Residents rotate at the VA during all years of training, including regular surgery and continuity clinics.  In addition to outpatient experiences, the Phoenix VA provides the Resident with experiences in inpatient dermatologic consultations, teledermatology, and is the host site for Basic Science lectures and the regularly scheduled dermatology Journal Club.

Phoenix Children's Hospital

Phoenix Children's Hospital serves a pediatric population with diverse dermatologic, medical, and surgical needs, both outpatient and inpatient. There are three full-time, board-certified pediatric dermatologists at the site. There are more than 8,000 outpatient visits per year, and of these more than 4,000 are new patient visits. More than 550 inpatient consults are performed each year, along with more than 70 excisions of benign/malignant lesions. Residents rotate at Phoenix Children’s Hospital during all years of training.

Specialists in Dermatology

The site director, Dr Hu, a fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon, is experienced in procedural dermatology, laser surgery, medical dermatology and cosmetic procedures. There are more than 15,000 office visits per year at this site. Of these, more than 1,200 are new patient visits. More than 1,400 benign/malignant excisions are performed per year at this site, along with more than 2,000 MOHS micrographic surgery procedures and more than 1,000 laser procedures.

Aurora Diagnostics

The staff at Aurora Diagnostics consist of four community-based, board-certified dermatopathologists with experience in educating residents in dermatopathology. Aurora processes more than 68,000 specimens per year. Residents rotate at Aurora Diagnostics every week during residency. On these days, Residents are involved in slide review in the morning. In the afternoon they attend dermatopathology lecture and conference, followed by text review. The supervisor of the residents’ dermatopathology experience was previously the program director of an ACGME-accredited dermatology residency program.

Omni Dermatology

Omni Dermatology is a community-based practice that serves a diverse patient population.  Under the direction of Dr. Racette, our assistant program director, residents have the opportunity to participate in the care of indigent patients as well as patients presenting with particularly complex dermatologic conditions. There are more than 28,000 office visits per year at this site, with more than 8,500 new patient visits. There are more than 950 benign/malignant excisions performed per year at Omni, along with more than 400 MOHS micrographic surgery procedures.
